The Artist
Elizabeth Durso (born 1986) grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, graduated from the School of the Art Institute, and has been working in the visual art, design, and fashion industries for over two decades. You can find her sharing her love of creative expression around the world in galleries, businesses, and boutiques. She also leads artistic teams and works as a professional photographer, throughout the United States, European Union, and Switzerland.
The Process
Inspired by minimalism, simplicity, and spontaneity, the artist uses found materials, camera equipment, and natural light to create imagery. Elizabeth captures candid photographs, in raw files, and prefers minimal processes postproduction. She often combines these snapshots with curated content into dreamlike collages while also incorporating video and sound into her projects to stimulate new sensations and sentiments.
The Art
Elizabeth produces contemporary photographs, drawings, and collages featuring unaffected patterns, the human form, and the natural world. Her work reveals themes of instinct, beauty, power, and politics. Each piece begins as an experiment - noting how paint moves, how light transforms a surface, and how a line expresses ideas. Each project is an organic and continuous visual story; every piece is informed by the last and integrated into the next, concluding in a layered visual representation of creative communication.
